LogShare vs CollabEdit

CollabEdit Alternative — Free, No Signup

CollabEdit was the plainest shared editor on the web: open a page, send the link, type together. It belonged to Codeanywhere, and collabedit.com now redirects to Codeanywhere's notice that the service was turned off on 1 July 2026. LogShare Code Share keeps the same no-account workflow and adds syntax highlighting for 16 languages, two tabs per room and PIN-locked private rooms.

What happened to CollabEdit

Codeanywhere announced it was winding down after more than fifteen years: it stopped accepting signups, and the service was turned off on 1 July 2026. CollabEdit went with it. Bookmarks, interview templates and old blog posts that point at collabedit.com now land on that notice, which is why "collabedit alternative" is a common search.

Moving an interview or a pairing session over

Open a Code Share room, pick the language and send the link; the other person types alongside you immediately, with no account on either side. Use the second tab for the task description or the test cases. For an interview room that should not be reachable afterwards, create a Private Room: it opens only with a PIN and expires at a time you choose, up to 24 hours.

What LogShare does not do

There is no chat panel and no code execution. Rooms are temporary by design: a public room is removed seven days after the last visit or edit. If you need a permanent document or a runtime, a full browser IDE is the better fit.

Open a code room No signup. Send the link, edit together, PIN-lock it if you like.

FAQ

Is CollabEdit coming back?

Nothing suggests it. As of October 2026 collabedit.com redirects to Codeanywhere's announcement that the service was turned off on 1 July 2026 and that it no longer accepts signups.

Can I recover my old CollabEdit documents?

Not through LogShare; there is nothing to import from. The Codeanywhere announcement is the only official source about the shutdown.

Do I need an account for LogShare Code Share?

No. A room is just a link. Nobody signs up, on either side.

How long does a room last?

A public room stays for seven days after the last visit or edit, and every visit restarts that clock. A Private Room ends at the expiry you picked, up to 24 hours.
